Anger Assessments
APS

Anger Parameters Scale measures the occurrence and process of anger. It is built on the theory that all emotions can be measured as signals with magnitude and temporal properties. Thus, anger has 5 measurable properties: (i) frequency or how often, (ii) duration or how long, (iii) intensity or how strong, (iv) latency or how quick, and (v) threshold or how sensitive to provocation. Scores on each parameter can be plotted to find out specific areas of dysregulation and scores can also be combined to yield a measure of overall anger.
AESS
The Anger Expression Styles Scale is designed to measure how anger is expressed or communicated. Theoretically and empirically, six qualitatively different dimensions are identified, each having two end points. Thus, Direction can take the form of reflection or deflection; Locus can be externalized or internalized; Reaction can be retaliation or resistance; Modality can be verbal or physical; impulsivity can be controlled or uncontrolled, objective can be restorative or punitive. A score on each of the 12 sub-subscales is used to generate a detailed plot of the individual’s anger expression style.
Combined, the APS and AESS, enable a comprehensive picture to be generated. This summarizes in an easily readable format, the many ways in which anger occurs, persists, and is manifested.
